Their Words

In Their Own Words

Real quotes from New Hampshire Democrats. Sourced from news reports, committee hearings, emails, and public statements.

"Let the teachers teach, and shut up. You're clearly no professional."

157 Democrats later voted against that bill.

"Some people think it's off the table."

Andru Volinsky, 2020 Democratic gubernatorial candidate

158 Democrats voted against constitutionally banning one.

"'Live Free or Die' can be triggering for suicide or rash actions."

Rep. Steve Woodcock (D-Conway)

Rep. David Luneau (D-Hopkinton)

Zero Democrats voted for school choice. 10,000+ families use EFAs.

Cautionary Tales

Think it can't happen here?

Democrats promised "temporary" and "small" taxes in neighboring states. Here's what happened.

Connecticut

1991: Governor Weicker introduces a "modest" income tax at 1.5%. Promises it will be temporary and reduce property taxes.

Today: The rate is 6.99%. Property taxes are the 3rd highest in America. The constitutional spending cap was never enforced.

The cost: State spending grew 71% faster than inflation. Taxpayers have paid a cumulative $126 billion in income taxes since 1991. The population has shrunk by 325,000 people.

Rate growth: From 1.5% to 6.99% — a 366% increase in the "modest" tax.

Massachusetts

1966: Introduces a "temporary" 3% sales tax to address a budget shortfall. Explicitly set to expire at end of 1968.

1967: Made permanent — one year later.

Today: The rate is 6.25%. In 2022, voters approved a 4% surtax on income over $1M. Residents continue to flee to New Hampshire.

59 years later: The "temporary" tax has been permanent for 59 years and counting.

Every "temporary" tax becomes permanent.

Connecticut and Massachusetts both promised their taxes would be small and short-lived. Decades later, rates have tripled and quadrupled. 158 New Hampshire Democrats just voted against banning an income tax here.
